Production of a Cylinder Block

Mould for a cylinder block, shows the internal cores and delicate steam passage. Different systems are used for the intricate cores to get the best results and release the sand. Coating the top half of the mould, combining both pieces is a precise and tricky manoeuvre.

Moulds are fired off before being put together. Due to the size of the casting, melts from both furnaces are combined in a Holding Ladle.

Although we use filtering systems in the moulds, floating slag is removed / prevented from leaving the ladle, excess metal is poured into standby moulds.

Cylinder Blocks that have been knocked out and fettled, ready for despatch. Blocks are fully machined and drilled ready for installation at customers premises.
