Production at William Lane
The fundamentals of the manufacturing
process remain unchanged despite recent
investments in the Foundry.
Silica sand mixed with sodium silicate is
used to make the moulds for Castings and
hardened off with carbon dioxide. The
surface of the mould is treated to prevent
sand binding to the casting and enhance the
surface finish. The running, gating and
filtering systems used are designed minimise
the inclusions and porosity.
We operate 2 Induction Furnaces, each with a
capacity of 120kg. Using a Holding Ladle we
can combine the melts from both Furnaces to
give a maximum capacity of 240kg, allowing
for the running system this equates to a
maximum casting size of 200kg.
Castings are fettled, and where required
shot-blasted, prior to despatch.
